Satellite EventAbout the Right to Energy Forum
The Right to Energy movement is a people-powered movement that successfully fights to end energy poverty in Europe. The Right to Energy Forum is an annual platform for activists, policy experts, unions, and campaigners who want to shape EU policy and action aimed at ending energy poverty.
The last few years were all about influencing the EU’s Fit for 55 Package – from the Buildings Directive, to the Social Climate Fund. This year, we will come together to ensure concrete and tangible solutions for those who need them most.
With a new delegation of EU Commissioners coming in soon, we must seize the opportunity to create a watershed moment for Europe. Now is the time to finally tackle the root causes of energy poverty, as well as implementing long-term solutions to shield the most vulnerable and prevent future energy crises.
The first day of the Forum will focus on the implementation of the Fit for 55 package across the EU and how a feminist approach could deliver the energy transition Europeans want, need and deserve. The second day will zoom in on shaping the EU’s strategy on eradicating energy poverty. Expect policy insights, political discussions and talks with decision makers about topics including energy and housing. The last day of the Forum will focus on realising our common vision for the universal right to clean energy. Expect talks about summer energy poverty and how the EU energy transition is affecting the Global South and the challenges of ensuring a global transition that truly works for all.
By listening and learning from each other we are going to take that vital next step towards building the collective power to ensure a just transition for Europe’s energy poor and energy-efficient, affordable housing for all, with access to fair, clean energy guaranteed as a basic right.
